If there is a contact you should have on your speed dial, it is that of a professional plumber to sort out your plumbing emergencies.

Plumbing issues range from minor leaks to more devastating bursts that sometimes threaten to soak everything in your house. When they erupt, they can quickly leave behind a flood of damage, unless you get your emergency plumber to fix the problem as quickly as he or she can get to your house.

While some plumbing problems can wait, others such as those listed below require immediate attention.

1. Sewer Backup

A sewer backup is one of the most nauseating plumbing emergencies your plumber will have to deal with. It is very uncomfortable to know that sewage is flowing back into your home instead of out of it. Things can get out of control if your sewer malfunctions and instead of pushing sewage out of your home decides to provide it with a backpass into your house. If this happens to your home, get the plumber to come over as quickly as possible before things really get out of hand.

However, don’t always wait for an emergency to show up before calling your plumber. There are telltale signs that seek to draw your attention to a potential sewer backup. For instance, if you recently started smelling a foul sewer smell around your house, or you hear a gurgling noise after flushing your toilet, call your plumber immediately so he can fix the problem before it mutates into a plumbing emergency.

2. Clogged Toilet

By virtue of the fact that toilets have a more direct access to your sewer drain, if they are clogged, this is as good a sign as any that you have a sewer backup problem around your home. If after flushing your toilets you notice water backing up into the toilet or coming back through your shower drains, call your plumber immediately.

You may have an emergency in the making. Once in, the plumber will inspect your drains and the entire plumbing system to establish if you have a sewer backup problem. In some cases, your worst nightmare could be shelved for another day since it could just be a partial or total clog, a problem your plumber can easily deal with.

3. Burst Pipes

Burst or frozen pipes are a common occurrence during the winter. Call your plumber as soon as you notice a leak or a burst pipe so they can attend to it immediately and nip the leaky problem in the bud. Having a plumber fix your pipes restores normal water supply to your home. It is important to attend to burst pipes as soon as possible before the leaks cause havoc to your home.

4. Flooded House

Any kind of flooding in your home is a sign of serious plumbing trouble. Instead of waiting until the waters are at swim-level, call your plumber immediately. Flooding could cause serious hazards such as electrocution as the water gets into contact with live connections.

Besides calling your plumber, you might want to place a call to your electrician as well. A flooded house can put you back thousands of dollars in terms of costly repairs and replacements.

5. Low Water Pressure

That low water pressure you have been experiencing lately could be due to clogged pipes, poor plumbing design, or sluggish pressure from the reservoir. If you notice water sluggishly coming out of taps, get a plumber to check whatever could be the problem.

Plumbing emergencies can severely disrupt your life if not immediately attended to by a competent reputable plumber. The key is to nip problems in the bud before they snowball into full-blown emergencies. However, inevitably, a pipe will suddenly burst, releasing its contents back into your house. At this point, you cannot afford to take chances. You need a professional plumber that knows his trade well.
