8 Hair Care Tips for the Winter Season

Winter is here and now that Christmas is over we all have to brace ourselves for the next few months of cold weather. When we’re all bundled up for the cold snap it can be a challenge to look our best, but that shouldn’t stop you from looking after your hair. In fact, the cold weather cause damage to your hair if you’re not careful. Follow these tips to ensure that your hair looks great all season!

1. Don’t keep your home too warm

It is important not to shock your hair by going from the cold outside to a home that is too warm. You’ll also save money on your utility bill too! Your hair and scalp can become very dry if you rapidly change the temperature that you are exposing it too.

2. The same rule applies for the shower

Hot showers in the winter are something that can feel so good, but they can be harmful to your hair. Not just your hair, but your skin and scalp can be really dried out too. It may not be as luxurious, but you should cool down your shower for the winter if you want your hair to look its best.

3. Don’t wash your hair as often

We all know that washing your hair too often can dry out your hair. This is especially true in winter. The last thing that you want to be doing is shampooing your hair more than three times a week when the temperature is colder outside.

4. Add oil to your beauty routine

The winter can dry out your hair a great deal. Not only is this unsightly, but you can also get an irritated scalp or dandruff. This can be a precursor to your hair falling out. No matter what else you have going on, you need to make sure that your scalp is moisturized at all times. Olive or coconut oil that is massaged into your scalp can do wonders for your hair. It is best to leave it in for about 20 minutes before rinsing out so that it can do its thing.

5. Use more conditioner

Conditioner is your friend in the winter time. During winter we recommend you to use a deep conditioner plus a leave in treatment, especially for those who know that they will be outside a great deal. If you need some advice on what products to purchase, I recommend following a couple of famous beauty gurus on YouTube for their product reviews.

6. Dry your hair the right way

Drying your hair at any time of the year can be problematic. Hair dryers and other methods can dry out your hair and scalp too much unless you protect it first. You can purchase some heat protection that you can comb into your hair before you blow dry it.

I know buying heat protection in the winter seems a little counterproductive, but your hair and scalp will thank you for it. Air drying your hair is one of the best ways to dry your hair. Never go outside with wet hair in the winter. This is not only bad for your hair, but it can also make you much colder and susceptible to catching a cold.

7. Wear a hat

Keep a hat on during the winter. This will protect your hair a great deal, just remember to bring a brush with you so that you can make sure that you look your best when you arrive wherever you’re going.

8. Eat a balanced diet

Eating a healthy diet full of vitamins is the best way to keep your hair and scalp looking and feeling healthy. Also, make sure you drink plenty of water to keep your hair and scalp hydrated.
